Strategize Your Team Development
Organizations can encourage effective teams, which at the very least, move beyond some of the toxicity, empowering those who are successfully performing. Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats (SWOT) workshops, for example, help pull teams together and create broad, compelling expectations as they move together toward common goals. I find once people start to discuss these concepts, they quickly get invested, and why not? They spend so much time within the organization for their work. Being involved with planning is an effective way to bring about commitment and accountability.
Discussing one’s role in a team, communication and conflict, can indeed help move in a more accountable direction. It can even be enjoyable, as people see themselves in the organization and apply their learning. All of this is possible with an organization which is committed to the topic after a guest, such as myself, leaves and applies the knowledge. A post training plan is critical for laying the groundwork for long term success.
I have been working in organizations focusing on team, communications and conflict for 30+ years. Some of those years were learning what never to do again. Some learning the importance of understanding steps and the process. My ability to translate that learning into a digestible format, helps me connect with a group and engage them with their own learning.
